I have a simple bike which works. My priorities are to have a bike that works and probobly won't cost me to much money to run. Bicycle thiefs cost a lot of money for Uppsala bikers. Uppsala is a city where many bicycles get stolen every year. Sometimes the bike turns up but the thieves are almost never caught. I believe that a reason for this is that the policemen are not bicycle-riders. I've had 2 bicycles stolen so far. Bicycle thiefs steal expensive bikes for money and bikes with weak locks for personal use. My bike is in such condition that a thief would probobly not steal it for the money he could get from selling it, but it is still working for me. I have reasonable strong locks on my bike to prevent the casual thiefs from stealing them for personal use.
